Going too far

My roommate brought the following home for me from Trader Joe's, unsuspecting the mockery to follow:

Vegetarian shaving cream? Really?

Which of course created the following chain of thought:

Since you don't eat shaving cream why bother...

followed (naturally for someone like myself) to the exclaimation... "My god, its Soylent Green Shaving Cream" because if its not 100% vegetarian for eating then it must be made of 100% vegetarian(s).......

Then it only took me a few minutes to explain my reasoning and the required pop-culture references to my roommate to explain why I was so amused...

That's awesome. :)

We were at a dog adoption day a few years back, and one of the PETA types told us that the dog she was fostering was a vegetarian and whoever adopted the dog would have to continue that. We stared at her for a minute, thinking she was joking. Like the dog expressed its food preference to her. I bet $100 that if you offered a chicken strip to that dog, it would snap that thing right up. We then realized she was serious and we quietly slipped away from the crazy lady.

I frequently quote Soylent Green. I'm surprised how many people don't get it.

Anyone who doesn't recognize "Soylent Green is people" needs to go back to high school. Same thing with "some animals are more equal than others."
